Chae An has worldwide responsibility for the technical strategy and architecture for core business solutions for IBM’s customers in banking, financial markets, and insurance.

In the banking industry, Chae is providing architectural guidance and strategy to IBM’s business solutions in payments including mobile payments, core banking modernization and transformation, customer care and insight, and integrated risk management. The areas of focus in the financial markets have been in trading platforms, low-latency technologies, and risk management. In the insurance industry, Chae is setting technical directions for IBM’s solutions for core insurance transformation, customer care and insight, distribution, and risk management including Solvency II.

Prior to his current position, he has held various technical and executive management positions at IBM Software Group and IBM Research, where he was leading research activities in robotics, supply chain optimization, e-Commerce technologies, and analytics for decision support.

Chae is currently a member of the board at BIAN (Banking Industry Architecture Network), a global standards organization aimed at developing industry standards for banking services.

Chae received Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science from MIT.
