BIAN Unveils New Service Landscape 14.0 to Accelerate AI‑Ready Banking Architecture
The latest update from the independent not-for-profit standards association is helping financial institutions to integrate emerging technologies.
The Banking Industry Architecture Network (BIAN), the independent, not‑for‑profit standards body, has announced the latest update to its service landscape, BIAN 14.0. In a landscape under pressure to integrate emerging technologies at speed,
BIAN are driving the industry towards greater rationalisation, interoperability, and compliance readiness.
A key feature of the update is the strengthened alignment with ISO 20022, a global financial messaging standard that supports the structuring and sharing of data. To support organisations in their modernisation journey, adoption of 14.0 will be integral to the successful simplification of data structures and improved regulatory compliance across markets.
BIAN is also expanding its standards work more formally into payments and insurance, highlighting a pivotal ambition to create a unified reference model that spans all elements of the financial services ecosystem.
Strengthening the strategic need for competitiveness and operational efficiency, Service Landscape 14.0 includes:
- New Service Domains supporting AI‑enabled use cases
- Updated Behaviour Qualifiers reflecting how modern institutions orchestrate data and workflows
- Enhancements to interoperability across APIs, messaging, and modular systems
Speaking on the launch, Hans Tesselaar, Executive Director at BIAN, said: “The changes in Service Landscape 14.0 give developers, architects, and business leaders a clearer blueprint for integrating AI effectively and improve productivity within organisations. As financial institutions accelerate their modernisation efforts, we want our members to lead the industry in turning emerging technologies into meaningful productivity gains.”
